A surface that invites you to look beyond it
KUNZ is a tribute to Emma Kunz (1892-1963), the Swiss healer, researcher and artist who spent her life trying to see beyond the surface of things. She did not draw to record what she saw, but to reach what lay beneath it – the forces she believed ran through the body, through plants, through matter itself. Her connection to this mirror is not the shape of her drawings, but that belief: that there is always more than matter shows, and that one need only stop, and look, to begin to see it.
design concept and inspiration
Black-stained ashwood, its grain opening into concentric rings
A mirror begins from the same idea. It gives back our own image, yet for anyone who stops to look, it rarely ends there – a surface that shows us matter and, at the same time, invites us to look for what lies beyond it. This is where the piece and the woman it is named for meet.
Made in black-stained ashwood, its grain opening into concentric rings, its forms held together by rings of aged brass, the mirror offers itself as more than a reflection. It asks to be stood before – and to those who stop, it may give back more than the surface.
