design concept and inspiration
A floating backrest that lets light through
The chair is built around a floating backrest and a generous, rounded seat. The back curves in a soft arc, leaving a clear gap that lets light pass through, giving the chair a sense of visual lightness. This hovering backrest supports the shoulders without enclosing them, while the broad, padded seat lets the sitter slide in and shift position easily through a meal.
Raised on splayed legs with a subtle mid-century spirit, MADELYN pairs an easy informality with careful design. It holds up through long dinners and working lunches alike, and moves easily from a home kitchen to a restaurant while keeping its raised, unified line.
