Fringe that turns structure into movement
LOÏE Bar Chair is a tribute to Loïe Fuller (1862-1928), the American dancer who built a language from fabric and light – silk veils spinning under coloured electric light, drawing shapes no body alone could make. One of the first artists to use electricity as a creative medium, and one of the first women to patent her own stage inventions.
design concept and inspiration
An elegant tension between structure and movement
The chair is built on a conical base, upholstered in a geometric, almost labyrinthine jacquard that anchors the piece with weight and presence. Above it, the enveloping seat opens like a gesture of welcome, framed by a curtain of fringe. As her veils turned movement into form, the fringe here turns a structural element into a living gesture – one that moves, breathes and invites touch.
At the centre of the base, a double ring of aged brass acts as a footrest and as a stage within the stage: an invitation to climb up, to sit, to be seen. Geometric rigour below, sensory movement above – the two held in balance.
