MARI takes its name from the ancestral figure of Basque mythology, tied to nature, the shifting skies and the rhythms of the earth – a presence that holds the balance between softness and force. Mamoa reads that spirit into a chair shaped by comfort and a grounded character: fluid and structured at once, with presence.
design concept and inspiration
A single continuous shell, arms rising asymmetrically
The chair is a gently sculpted upholstered shell, backrest, seat and arms flowing in one continuous movement. The integrated arms rise asymmetrically from the body, giving the silhouette a subtle sense of motion. Upholstered from top to leg, the piece reads as a single, unified volume – an approach that brings out the fabric’s texture and the precision of the tailoring. The tapered legs give balance and lift; the curved back softens the vertical line.
Designed for expressive residential interiors and boutique hospitality, MARI has arms that support leisurely meals and conversation, and a compact footprint that fits easily into a range of dining settings. In calm neutrals or bold patterns, it holds its character in the room.
