The Essence of Turn

A block that changes character by being turned

TURN takes its name from a simple action: shifting, rotating, turning a module to make a new configuration. It explores how a basic wooden block changes character when its corners are cut and identical units are moved against one another – geometry and proportion doing the work, with no mechanism. The pieces are made to be turned, slid and combined to suit different layouts.

design concept and inspiration

Each TURN starts from a compact, almost square top. The top reads as a solid plank in pale oak, but at every corner the wood is cut into a faceted volume, in a darker oak, that continues down into the legs – so top and legs read as one continuous body, with sharp planes that catch the light. The contrast between the two tones marks where the table turns from surface into leg.

Used together, the modules do more. Sized to sit flush side by side or slightly offset, they build longer compositions – linear, L-shaped or staggered islands in front of a sofa or between armchairs. Solid wood, precise cuts, no visible hardware: the focus stays on the rhythm of the modules and the diagonals the legs draw towards the floor. A single TURN works as a side table; two or three become a centre table that expands, contracts or changes shape with the occasion.
